NDIS Support Coordination on the Gold Coast: What's Available and How to Find It

The Gold Coast has a growing NDIS provider market — but not all support coordination is equal. Here's what to look for, where the gaps are, and how to find the right coordinator for your situation.

The Gold Coast is one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions — and its NDIS provider market reflects that growth. There are more options than there were five years ago. There are also more providers who’ve entered the market quickly, without the experience to back up what they’re offering.

For participants and families trying to navigate support coordination on the Gold Coast, here’s the honest picture.

What is the Gold Coast NDIS landscape like?

The Gold Coast spans a large geographic area — from Coolangatta in the south to Coomera and beyond in the north, and west through areas like Nerang, Robina, and up into the Scenic Rim hinterland around Mt Tamborine and Canungra. That geography matters, because many providers are concentrated in the northern or coastal suburbs and have limited genuine presence further south or in the hinterland.

When a provider says they “cover the Gold Coast,” ask: where are your coordinators actually based, and what does travel to my area look like in practice?

What to look for in a Gold Coast support coordinator

Local knowledge — A coordinator who knows the Gold Coast provider landscape — which allied health services have availability, which day programs have good outcomes, which accommodation providers have vacancies — is considerably more useful than one who does a generic Google search every time you need a referral.

Experience with your specific needs — The Gold Coast has a diverse population, including a significant population of older participants, people with psychosocial disability, and families with children who have developmental or behavioural support needs. Find a coordinator whose experience aligns with your situation.

Willingness to travel — If you’re in a southern suburb, the hinterland, or an area that isn’t central, make sure your coordinator will come to you — not just manage you remotely.

Caseload transparency — Ask directly how many participants your coordinator supports. A coordinator who is overloaded will not be responsive when you need them.

Where are the gaps in Gold Coast NDIS support?

Hinterland coverage is the most obvious gap. Mt Tamborine, Canungra, Beaudesert, and surrounding areas have far fewer providers than coastal and northern suburbs. Participants in those areas often end up with coordinators and workers who add travel charges to their rates — and it adds up quickly.

Mental health-specific coordination is also unevenly distributed. There are many coordinators who will take participants with psychosocial disability on their books. Fewer have the clinical background to coordinate complex mental health presentations effectively.

What does Thrive in Life Care offer on the Gold Coast?

Thrive in Life Care works with NDIS participants across the Gold Coast — including Southport, Broadbeach, Robina, Helensvale, Nerang, Mt Tamborine, and surrounding areas.

Oliver leads our support coordination practice at Level 2, working with participants who need proactive, relationship-based coordination across a range of disability types and life situations.

For participants with psychosocial disability or complex mental health needs, Katarina leads our Level 3 Specialist Support Coordination and Psychosocial Recovery Coaching practice. As a registered mental health nurse and psychotherapist, she brings clinical depth to coordination that most providers in the region can’t match.

We’re an unregistered provider — which means we work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. We’re deliberate about keeping our caseloads manageable so participants get real attention, not just a name in a database.

How to connect with a Gold Coast support coordinator

If you’re looking for support coordination on the Gold Coast:

  1. Check your plan first — Look for “Support Coordination” in your Capacity Building budget. Level 2 (Support Coordination) and Level 3 (Specialist Support Coordination) have separate line items.

  2. If it’s not in your plan — Speak to your LAC about whether your situation warrants it. If you believe it does, prepare evidence of complexity for your next review.

  3. Interview more than one coordinator — The relationship matters as much as the capability. Take the time to speak with a few and trust your instinct about who will actually advocate for you.

  4. Ask specifically about Gold Coast availability — Where are they based? Will they come to your area? What’s their availability for an initial meeting?
